“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Just as a city built on a hill cannot be concealed, so too, our lives as Christians should shine brightly for all to see. We are not meant to hide our faith or dim our light. Instead, we are called to place our lamps on a stand, allowing them to illuminate the darkness around us. Our good works, fueled by our faith in Jesus Christ, should be a lighthouse and a testimony to the power of God’s love. Jesus is not encourageing pride but rather humility. When we shine our light before others, it is not to boast about our accomplishments but to glorify God and draw others to Him.
When our lives shine brightly, others are drawn to the light. They see the difference that Christ makes in our lives and are inspired to seek Him for themselves. In this way, we glorify God and bring Him honour.
